4 Ton Heat Pump
Goodman Up to 15.2 SEER2 Single-Stage, R-32 | GLZS4BA4810
A 4 ton heat pump delivers 48,000 BTU of heating and cooling for large homes — often two-story or open-plan houses around 2,100 to 2,400 square feet. At this capacity, cold-weather performance and airflow are what separate a comfortable install from a disappointing one.

A large heat pump has to deliver strong heat when it's coldest and move a lot of air to do it. Check the unit's rated heating capacity at low outdoor temperatures — cold-climate models hold output far better than standard ones — and confirm your ductwork can carry the airflow a 4 ton system needs, or far rooms will stay cool no matter the capacity. A two-stage or variable-speed compressor also helps a big home stay even.
Planning a 4 ton heat pump for a larger home? Let's check cold-weather output and airflow →
A heat pump's heating output falls as it gets colder, but cold-climate 4 ton models hold capacity remarkably well into the teens and below. Check the unit's rated low-temperature output, and plan backup heat for extreme cold.
Large homes of about 2,100–2,400 sq ft, particularly two-story or open layouts — sized with a load calculation covering both heating and cooling.
Not always. A 4 ton system needs ducts and returns sized for higher airflow; undersized ducts restrict it and leave rooms uneven. Have duct capacity checked before installing.
In a large home, often yes. Variable-speed and two-stage compressors run longer at lower output, which evens temperatures between floors, holds humidity down, and improves cold-weather comfort.
It draws more than smaller units, and the auxiliary heat strip adds load, so the breaker, wiring, and panel must be sized for both. Confirm the electrical capacity before install.
