1.5-2.5 Ton Air Handler
Trane Hyperion, Variable Speed, 1000 CFM, 21-1/4" Cabinet, R-454B | 5TAMXC03AV31D
Air handlers and evaporator coils are the indoor half of a split system — the part that actually moves and cools the air inside your home. Which one you need depends on your setup: an air handler if you don't have a furnace, or a coil that sits on top of one if you do. Both must match your outdoor unit's capacity.

The two do related jobs. An evaporator coil provides the cold surface that removes heat from the air; an air handler is a coil plus a blower in one cabinet. The right choice comes down to whether a furnace is already moving your air.
Not sure whether you need a coil or an air handler? Tell us your setup and we'll match it →
An evaporator coil is just the cold coil that removes heat from indoor air, and it relies on a furnace's blower to move air across it. An air handler combines a coil and a blower in one cabinet, so it moves air on its own — used when there's no furnace.
If you have a gas furnace, you need a matching evaporator coil that mounts on it. If you don't have a furnace — or you're running a heat pump — you need an air handler, which includes the blower.
Yes. The coil or air handler must match the condenser's capacity and refrigerant so the system reaches its rated efficiency. A mismatched indoor unit lowers performance and can void the warranty.
It should match the tonnage of your outdoor unit — a 3 ton condenser needs a 3 ton coil or air handler, for example. We list both by tonnage from 1.5 to 5 tons.
It's not recommended. Older coils are often built for R-410A and different capacities; pairing one with a new condenser undercuts efficiency and typically voids the warranty. Replace the coil with the outdoor unit.
