Sizing a heat kit

Heat-kit sizing depends on the role (light backup vs primary heat), the air handler it goes in, and your electrical service, since larger kits draw more current. Small kits (3–8 kW) cover heat-pump backup; larger ones (15–25 kW) can be primary heat for an all-electric home, often across multiple circuits.

• Sized in kW — ~3,412 BTU per kW.
• Electrical load — larger kits need more circuits.
